New multi-million pound car park set to help Pontypridd regeneration

The South Wales construction group Macob has completed the first phase of a multi-million pound regeneration project in Pontypridd.

The £4.5 million multi-storey car park, is the first phase of a £10 million regeneration scheme involving Macob, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

The development located in Pontypridd town centre will also feature 39,500 sq. ft of brand new office accommodation.

The central location of the car park will benefit local workers, visitors and shoppers, and will help restore Pontypridd as a shopping destination within the region.

Excel Parking Services Ltd, a national car park operator with more than 200 sites around the UK, will manage and operate the pay on foot car park that has space for 320 cars.

Wayne Rees, technical director of Macob said: “Macob is pleased to be contributing to the ongoing regeneration of Pontypridd with the mix of new office space and parking available at Pennant House. The opening of the car park marks an exciting phase of the project. Just a few seconds walk from the town centre, it is ideally located for shoppers and workers.”

Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cllr Paul Cannon said: “Pennant House is an incredibly exciting project and clearly illustrates that the gradual regeneration of Pontypridd is becoming visible to all who visit, live in and work in the town centre.

“Rhondda Cynon Taf is determined to do all in its power to ensure that Pontypridd is restored as a major shopping destination, not only within the county borough, but within the whole of South Wales.”

The car park located at Pennant House, St. Catherine’s Corner, is due to open on the 2nd June.

Opco was the main contractor on the development.
