Lansdowne Gardens & St David's Hospital Clocktower

The St David's Community Hospital in Cardiff - the first new hospital to be built in the city for over 30 years, was part funded through the disposal of surplus land at the St David's site and the adjacent Lansdowne Gardens.

Following the completion of the new hospital by Impregilo Macob Consortium as a private finance initiative on behalf of the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, Macob Developments was charged with bringing the surplus land to a greenfield standard ready for land sale to housing developers.

The surplus land at St David's included the well-known listed clocktower situated alongside Cowbridge Road which has been transformed into seven luxury apartments by Wimpey Homes.

The redevelopment secured the future of the Grade II buildings which had fallen into a state of disrepair since the old St David's Hospital closed in 1991. The Lansdowne site has been developed into a popular large-scale housing and apartment scheme by Redrow Homes.
