St David's Community Hospital
Cardiff's state of the art new hospital
St David's Community Hospital is a £20m 100-bed community facility in Canton, Cardiff. It was officially opened by First Minister Rhodri Morgan on July 12 2002 and is the first hospital to be built in the city for over 30 years.
The 80,000 sq ft hospital was built in partnership with Impregilo Macob Consortium (IMC) and brings much needed, high quality services to the local community including provision for the elderly and infirm.
The hospital brings together a range of services for older people, outpatient clinics, day hospitals, children's services, therapies and a dental unit, which is the first of its kind in Wales to combine teaching, research and treatment.
The hospital was constructed on the derelict site of the former St David's Hospital which closed in 1991.
IMC is responsible for the management of the building and the non-clinical services for a 28-year period.
