Cardiff Coal Exchange
The Coal Exchange is about to enter a new chapter in its long history. Work is due to start on the £20m extensive renovation and redevelopment of the historic 200,000 sq ft building by Macob Projects into a vibrant mix of commercial, office and residential units.
A brief history
The Coal Exchange in Mount Stuart Square, Cardiff Bay is one of Cardiff's most historic buildings, and has been transformed over the years from commercial hub to arts and entertainment centre. It was here that the first £1m commodity deal in the world was signed. Since Macob Projects bought the Cardiff Exchange Building in 2001, it has become a first choice venue for rock and pop concerts, dances, conferences and award ceremonies.
Redevelopment
The redevelopment proposals include 116 one and two bedroom apartments, restaurants, bars, shops and offices, securing the future of this Grade II landmark building. The Exchange Hall will be retained and enhanced for public events.
